With iPhone users coping with cracked screens, will the Samsung Galaxy S3 convince them it really is the best smartphone?

cracked screen iPhoneDespite the Samsung Galaxy proving to be the most popular smartphone in 2011, the general consensus among the public is that the iPhone is the best smartphone on the market.

No doubt a large part of that can be attributed to Apple’s much-loved, world-renowned brand name.

However, with reports that half of all iPhone owners have cracked the screen’s display at some point and with two fifths of all iPhones currently in the UK featuring a broken screen, the launch of a Samsung Galaxy S3 may suddenly be a whole lot more appealing for those dedicated Apple fans.

Rumours of a Samsung Galaxy S3

So I’m guessing that not only will it be the techies who are getting themselves in a twist over the mounting speculation, but the general public too.

Although nothing has been confirmed, with the South Korean manufacturer remaining tight-lipped, there have been plenty of rumours circulating about the launch of a Samsung Galaxy S3 to get us excited.

I know for sure I am. My husband has a Samsung Galaxy S2, and sometimes I get a teeny-tiny bit jealous when he can do things better than I can on my iPhone.

So, what can we expect from the Samsung Galaxy S3?

I can’t imagine a smartphone much smarter than the Samsung Galaxy S2 (although its voice recognition is nothing compared to Siri!), so it begs the questions, what will the newer version of the Samsung Galaxy possess to lure in new customers?

Here are the anticipated features;

  • 3D

2011 has been the year for 3D. We’ve had films, TVs and even a couple of 3D smartphones. Samsung is familiar with 3D technology, so reports that it is equipping the Galaxy S3 with this technology seems pretty viable. This would allow users to capture and watch 3D videos.

  •  Samsung Galaxy S3 operating system

Will we see an updated version of Android 4.0? Will the new operating system make the smartphone even quicker, smoother, more enjoyable to use?

  •  Dual-core chip for Samsung Galaxy S3

Last year, the Exynos 5250 was revealed – Samsung’s latest chip. The dual-core processor offers 2GHz and is the successor to the 4210. With its high resolution capabilities and 3D support, there is no doubt that Samsung will be embedding this mega-powerful chip into the Galaxy S3.

  • Release date

I’ll admit that this one is pretty tricky to pin down, seeing as Samsung has yet to confirm anything regarding its Galaxy S3, but seeing as the last Galaxy was released at the start of April last year, perhaps they will stick to what has worked for them in the past and launch it this April. I hope so!

  •  Samsung Galaxy S3 price

Considering the recent launch of the Galaxy Nexus which sold for a whopping £520 at the time of its launch and the few weeks that followed, and with contracts starting at £36, we can expect to see the S3 priced at similar high-end level.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 saw the biggest sales for 2011, so it won’t be a surprise when the newer version of the smartphone rises in price. Samsung is steaming ahead and with so much buzz surrounding the Galaxy, it seems they could set the price just about as high as they please.

I wonder how the news of all those cracked screens will affect iPhone sales?

Do you think those who have yearned for an iPhone will be swaying towards waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S3 instead?
